Branched out to focus on research tools and open source solutions. Most importantly, put users into the framework of customers – they know what they want, our role is to help them get there. My philosophy: “I can build you a ladder to the moon, it just costs a trillion dollars a year for the next hundred years… or we can find something sooner and cheaper that meets most of your needs.

This is also where I was introduced to OneNote, and the power this has to serve as your own person Knowledge base. I preach it like a religion everywhere I go.”

Here’s where I really got exposure to scale. Mass virtualization became the norm, and VB scripting was the cornerstone of productivity. Exchange and AD knowledge became my superpower, and although introduced to PowerShell, I was still writing VB scripts to write my PowerShell. Developed an appreciation for ITIL structure and DR planning at enterprise level.

Discovered the power of virtualisation while maintaining both production and development networks. Got my first real taste of automation, while using Ruby to run software testing for our email archiving program, across multiple mail and operating system .

Led a major desktop rollout with mass interpersonal exposure – meeting and coordinating with hundreds of users face to face. Learned to lead a team and brought AD scripting skills to bear on tracking down rogue computers.

Learned the “do it yourself” mantra through problem solving, networking, and VBA scripting. Bespoke Access databases became my bread and butter. Got my first taste of HTML and CSS, while mastering MS Office, Exchange, and AD fundamentals.
